Safety Review Models on Radioactive Source Term Design For PWR Waste Treatment Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
The source of all liquid, gaseous and solid radioactive waste in the pressure water reactor (PWR) nuclear power plant (NPP) originate from leakage of fission products out of the fuel rods into the primary coolant and neutron activation of materials within and around the primary coolant system and reactor vessel. The source term design used to determine the concentrations of radionuclides in the reactor coolant, which could be: (1) A conservative source term which predicts the maximum concentration of nuclides in the Reactor Coolant System establishes the design basis of the various onsite processing systems for the purpose of defining system capacity and shielding requirements and (2) A realistic source term for the purpose of evaluating the reasonably expected inventories and releases of radionuclides under normal operating condition, including anticipated operational occurrences. This paper will discuss the safety review models on source term design for the PWR waste system mainly on the basis of the conception of the conservative source term.

Cementation of Radioactive Waste from a Pwr with Calcium Sulfoaluminate Cement
Spent radioactive ion-exchange resin (SIER) and evaporation concentrates are radioactive wastes that are produced at by pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power stations. Borate, which is used as a retardent for cement, is also present as a moderator in a PWR, therefore, borate will be present in both ion-exchange resins and evaporation concentrates. In this study the use of Calcium sulfoa...

A systematic study on long-lived fission products (LLFPs) transmutation has been performed with the aim of devising an optimal strategy for their transmutation in critical or subcritical reactor systems and evaluating impacts on the geologic repository. First, 99Tc and 129I were confirmed to have highest transmutation priorities in terms of transmutability and long-term radiological risk reduct...
متن کاملSafety Research Activities on Radioactive Waste Management in JNES
Research activities in safety regulation of radioactive waste management are presented. Major activities are as follows. As for the geological disposal, major research areas are, developing “safety indicators” to judge the adequacy of site investigation results presented by an implementer (NUMO), compiling basic requirements of safety design and safety assessment needed to make a safety review ...
متن کاملReassessment of the Goiânia radioactive waste repository in Brazil using HYDRUS-1D
In September 1987 an accident occurred with a cesium chloride (CsCl) teletherapy source taken from a cancer therapy institute in Goiânia, Brazil. Misuse of the abandoned source caused widespread contamination of radioactive material (about 50 TBq of Cs) in the town of Goiânia. Decontamination of affected areas did lead to about 3,500 m of solid radioactive wastes, which were disposed in two nea...
